The Bathroom: Before and After

When we moved into our house last July, one of the projects we felt was urgent was to update the bathroom. What was wrong with the bathroom, you ask? Well...nothing, I suppose. There was the little issue of the cupboards on the wall in the tub area where you would expect a shower head to be. If you prefer storage over showers, then it would have been perfect. Except for the pinkness of the decor. And the general ugliness. Other than that, it was fine.

Anyway, before we moved in Jon and a bunch of guys gutted the bathroom. In so doing, they discovered that the tub had been fitted with a facelift tub surround type thing. In reality the tub was a cast iron beast that they could hardly move. They managed to get it out of there and rip apart the rest of the room. We had new electrical put in, the plumbing changed (so that now the toilet is next to the tub, rather than having the sink next to the tub. We took out the linen closet in the hallway to open up more space in the bathroom. We changed the way the door opens. We basically changed EVERYTHING.

I, in all of my naivete, believed that we would be able to completely renovate the bathroom in a few short weeks. Not so. It's been a long 8 months, but I think we can finally say that the bathroom is pretty much done. Now, it's not "done done" as my friend Mike Moffitt would say. We still need to hang towel hooks and maybe some art or something. But, it is close enough for me to post some before and after pictures. Maybe one day you can come and stand on our heated tile floor and use our dual flush toilet.
